How will you meet the family challenge?
It's National Family Meals Month and they are issuing us a challenge.
Research has shown that only 30% of families sit down together around the table every night.
It has also shown that eating together at home reduces the rate of childhood obesity, substance abuse and knits families closer together. Sounds like a winning combination but how can we make a difference in our busy lives?
Juggling carpool, after school activities, meetings and work certainly creep into our best efforts to make this happen. National Family Meals Month is all about trying to incorporate just one more family meal a week into our schedule with food purchased from the grocery store. Maybe during the week doesn't look good for you but what about Saturday breakfast? Sunday brunch? It can be any meal, just create the space to have conversations and time together around your table.
KISS-Keep it simple silly! Back to basics on this one makes for easy prep and clean up. Here are a few Scone Shop suggestions to keep it homemade but a snap:
Roasted Chicken or Grilled Chicken with vegetables you can steam, warm or microwave and add that cranberry orange scone to give it a homemade, special touch.
Tomato soup from a box or can, chopped Romaine salad with carrots, grape tomatoes and cucumbers with a bacon cheddar scone. It's a step up from the old grilled cheese and tomato soup.
A bowl of yogurt, berries or fruit you have on hand, throw in a few slices of pre-cooked bacon or a hard boiled egg along with a cinnamon chip scone and it's ready in 12 minutes or less.
KISS and everyone can pitch in and gather around to strengthen those family ties!
