Updated Apps for the Big Game!
Although the Panthers didn’t make it to the Super Bowl (for my Charlotte fans!), you can still have fun cheering on the Patriots and the Eagles with a winning table of appetizers. Ask friends to come over and bring along their favorite nibbles too. Keep a few boxes of frozen scones in your freezer for last minute snacks with a homemade touch. Add The Scone Shop’s sweet or savory scones to make this a filling, satisfying and memorable event. Remember you can cut the frozen scones into smaller pieces cooking them approximately the same amount of time.
Try these 3 tasty tidbits inspired from Whole Foods Market’s booklet “Update Your Apps!”. Crunchy, sweet, chewy and savory are used in a simply delicious way. I have included photos of some of the items from their booklet so you can see for yourself.
Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
12-20 frozen shrimp, thawed
Package of bacon
Jar of your favorite BBQ sauce
6-10 Jalapeños peppers
Preheat oven to 400˚F. Halve or quarter jalapeños (depending on the size) and remove seeds. In a small bowl, dip the shrimp into the BBQ sauce and place one in each half or quarter pepper. Wrap with one slice of bacon. Bake on parchment paper in oven for about 10 minutes. Bacon should be getting crispy. Remove from oven and brush more sauce onto shrimp/bacon then return to oven for 4 more minutes or until the shrimp and bacon are fully cooked. Eat warm!
Cucumber Sliders with Grapes
1-2 Cucumbers, sliced into 1/4’ rounds
Can of garbanzo beans, drained
1 sprig of fresh mint, chopped
1-2 scallions, sliced
1/2 Tablespoon Olive oil
Red grapes, quartered
Mash beans then mix in mint, scallions and a drizzle of olive oil. Fold in grapes. Put a dollop of the bean mix onto the cucumber slices. Serve cold. You can garnish your serving plate with some of the leftover grapes.
Pear Drizzled Skewers
Fresh pears to cut into 6-8 wedges each depending on size
Caramel sauce in bottle
Semi sweet mini morsels
Shredded coconut, toasted
Slice the pears into 6-8 wedges each and remove the core. Skewer them longwise and drizzle with caramel sauce, chocolate chips and coconut.
Cheers to an excellent Big Game day!
